Today’s families have more choices than ever in what their child’s education can look like. Richardson ISD is the ONE to lead the way and offers a wide variety of experiences and resources so that every student can find their fit and explore their passions, and every student can reach their growth goals.

From specialized magnet programs to Career and Technical Education pathways, early college opportunities, robust Gifted and Talented curriculum, Special Education resources, and a wide range of award-winning athletics and fine arts, students have incredible opportunities and experiences within strong community-centered neighborhood schools.

Developing Character Through the Arts

Extracurricular activities, such as the arts, are more than a fun enrichment opportunity for students. From an early age, students learn to lead, be part of a team, take responsibility, and demonstrate commitment. Creativity meets discipline, passions fuel purpose, and students grow through the arts.

Not only do the arts develop positive character, but data show the positive impact on both attendance and academic performance. In an educational environment often facing challenging decisions, RISD prioritizes the arts across all grade levels. ### Diverse Programming for Every Student

  • Elementary & Middle Schools: Full-scale musical productions.

  • Cultural Programs: Mariachi and ballet folklorico.

  • High School Groups: Country western dance groups and Broadway-caliber productions.

Students aren’t just performing; they’re building skills that translate to life-long success.

As a TAEA District of Distinction, RISD provides high-level visual arts curriculum that encourages students to refine their craft and express their unique perspectives.

Fine Arts and Academic Excellence

Fine Arts and academic excellence go hand in hand, and the impact is measurable. Across all four high schools, students who lead their senior class are involved in the arts, showing that time spent rehearsing, performing, creating, and refining their craft strengthens the same habits that drive success in the classroom.

The Data Behind the Arts

  • Top Rankings: 67.5% of the top 10 ranked students across the district are involved in Fine Arts.

  • Top Honors: All 4 Valedictorians are participants in fine arts programs.

  • Attendance: Last school year, RISD students enrolled in fine arts had a higher daily attendance rate compared to non-participants.

When students are connected, challenged, and inspired, they come to school ready to learn.
